Martin Bourne

Martin grew up with one foot in London's East End, visiting aunties and grandparents, and the other foot in leafy Hertfordshire, going to country schools and breathing in the fresh air. With the geographical pull, Martin spent a lot of his holidays and weekends being dragged around stately homes and museums. Martin would stare at vast drawing rooms and Roman remains and wonder how so much history was crammed into such a small island.

After successive subscriptions to House and Garden, teenage tantrums about bedroom decor and two honors degrees in textile design and interior design, Martin managed to convince UK Elle Decoration to let him style and edit their stories. Simultaneously, he began to work with Wallpaper magazine.

As a stylist, Martin is interested in the personality of space and likes to create layered interiors with a nod to history and a wink to the quirky. He is as happy designing sets and creating spaces from scratch as he is creating illustrations and paper cut outs for photo shoots. He also enjoys bringing story boards to life for motion capture and working with clients on creative and art direction.

Martin's own homes have been featured in AD Spain, Elle Decoration and Vogue Living as well as two books by Will Taylor (Bright Bazaar’s Dream Decor, 2016) and Emily Henson (Life Unstyled, 2016).

Martin's passion for travel and people drives him to wander the not so beaten path to discover textiles and objects in markets and stores worldwide. When not traveling or shooting, he divides his time between New York City and his large upstate New York home.
